MUSIC/LEARNING
The concept of THE READING PARTY PROGRAM is research-based, and supported by a multitude of educators and learning theorists. Plato emphasized, “Music is one of the most powerful and effective tools utilized in education”. Music trains the brain for higher forms of thinking; it excites and builds the natural brain patterns, strengthening the ability to complete reasoning tasks that are complex. Educational theorist, Howard Gardner, identifies musical and rhythmic intelligence, along with bodily-kinesthetic intelligence as multiple intelligences. He sees mental and physical activities as being closely related and associates the two with increased learning gains.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY/LEARNING
Physical activity is an essential component of a healthy lifestyle. In combination with healthy eating, it can help prevent a range of chronic diseases. Physical activity helps control weight; builds lean muscle; reduces fat; promotes strong bone, muscle and joint development; and decreases the risk of obesity. Research indicates that principals, teachers and parents can help make schools healthier places to learn by integrating physical activity during the school day. THE READING PARTY PROGRAM infuses physical fitness routines into phonics lessons and teaches students to learn to read while being physically active.
